Ken Livingstone: One of Our Greatest Politicians

A sad night for us and an emotional one for London's Mayor for the past eight years. Ken Livingstone is without doubt, one of Labour's finest ever politicians and one of the most successful public servants Britain has had in the past 30 years.

Why are Labour's presentational skills so bad?

Reflecting on last night's bad results it strikes me just how poor and out-dated Labour's presentational skills are compared to the Tories. What's the reason for this?

Watch Boris Johnson's 'Michael Howard moment' here!

Ken should try and slip this into one of his campaign ads!

Newsnight Debate: Clear Victory for Ken

For those who didn't catch the London Mayoral debate on Newsnight this evening, click here.

I'm obviously biased here, but I genuinely thought Ken won it.

Boris 42% Ken 41%

Ken's catching up. Could a comeback be on the cards?

Straw heralds AV for Commons

The Guardian's leader this morning observes that finally after 11 years, the government might be getting serious on constitutional reform.

What's Going Wrong?

Two disasterous polls for us in recent days show that we could be in for rough ride in the May elections.

Donate to Ken's Campaign!

After nearly choking on my own rage after seeing Boris Johnson ahead of Ken by 5 points in the latest poll, I decided to make a nice donation to Ken's campaign to make me feel better!

Diane Abbott suffering from Foot-in-Mouth disease (again)

Was I the only one who was completely gobsmacked last night when Diane Abbott said on 'This Week' that she was a fan of Chairman Mao despite the fact that it had just been pointed out to her that he was responsible for the deaths of millions and was one of the world's most brutal dictators?

Diane's logic was that he was still essentially good because he ended feudalism. Hmm.

Labour's 50 Greatest Achievements!

The Tories have been kind enough to highlight our fifty greatest achievements over the past 11 years.

A couple of us Labourites have been adding to the list - so please feel free to add some more. We're up to 86 so far!

Boris Johnson faces Conflict of Interest Charge

This morning's top story in the Guardian reveals that Boris Johnson's London mayoral campaign is receiving financial support from a controversial Japanese company that has clashed with the current mayor Ken Livingstone's office over multimillion-pound plans for development in the capital.

Livingstone's Poll Ratings go up!

I knew the Evening Standard's little games would backfire on them.

In a new ITV / YouGov poll taken after the biased Dispatches programme, Ken's lead over Boris has increased from 1 point to 4 points.

Osborne fails to declare £487,000 donations

Shadow Chancellor George Osborne is in trouble this morning after it emerged that he failed to declare £487,000 worth of donations to the Register of Members' Interests.

Given Cameron kicked up so much of a fuss over similar Labour situations, he'll presumably be asking for his Shadow Chancellor to resign?

Brown & Clegg: The Start of Constitutional Reform?

Today's Observer noted that Brown and Clegg have been holding talks with regards to constitutional reform.

The Campaign for Fixed Term Parliaments

Just to draw your attention to a new blog set up by Iain Dale which campaigns for fixed term Parliaments.

Cameron's Constituency Party admits to receiving Illegal Donations

"David Cameron's constituency party has admitted receiving £7,400 in invalid donations, it was revealed today. The Witney Conservative Association has agreed to forfeit the sum to public funds after initially banking the money."

Should same-sex marriage now be legalised?

This week marks the 2 year anniversary of civil partnerships being legalised in the UK.

However, a report this week states that the differences between 'marriage' and 'civil partnerships' are still leading to discrimination for homosexual couples and are leading to 'forced outings' due to the questions asked on forms.

The Unholy Coalition - the SNP & the Tories

An article in today's Scotsman talks about increasing co-operation between the Tories and the SNP and next month Cameron and Salmond are planning to meet up to discuss their new 'union'.

Next week the SNP is removing the bar against a potential coalition with the Tories - something that just a few months ago would have seemed unimaginable.

'Labor' wins Down Under!

The Australian Labor Party has won the 2007 General Election ending the 11-year premiership of John Howard and the Liberal Party!

Is the United Kingdom breaking up?

As many of you will know, there's been a lot of talk about the future of the United Kingdom this weekend with much talk about us breaking up.

What do you think will happen? Will we go our own separate ways or stay together? And even if we do split up, could it actually be beneficial to all of us?
